Remembering Alice RobinsonIt is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Captain Alice Robinson, a cherished member of our LAMI family. As a passionate sail training advocate, Alice played a pivotal role in founding the organization alongside Captain Jim Gladson. Thousands of youth and adults have been impacted by her dedicated efforts over the last 30-plus years, but the lucky ones were those who had the honor of sailing with and learning from “Captain Mom” personally.

Alice remained actively involved with LAMI, most recently serving as a dedicated board member, as well as sharing a treasure trove of knowledge and institutional history, especially with those who joined the organization more recently. She has received numerous awards and accolades, including ASTA Sail Trainer of the Year in 1998 and the Points of Light Award in 2002. We are thrilled to share that this year, the San Pedro Chamber of Commerce will be honoring her posthumously for the impact she made in the local community at their annual Women’s History Month Celebration on March 13, 2025. We’ll be sharing more about Alice and her impact on LAMI in the coming weeks as well – to honor everything she has done for us, local youth and our community.
