We’ve had a few special guests for this spring’s Maritime Youth Leadership Ambassador (MYLA) sessions focused on maritime careers and vocations – both on the boats and off! Our friends Yusen Terminals hosted a special tour for the MYLA participants from Harry Bridges Span School, as the middle school students got a behind the scenes look at a marine terminal and learned about the different roles involved in moving cargo. Just like on our tall ships, this experience opened their eyes to numerous possibilities for a future in supply chain logistics. One of the students even shared what he knew about longshoremen, because he’s related to a few! Special shout-out to San Pedro Historic Downtown Waterfront’s Trolley for coming along for the ride.

Another session with high school students from Rancho Dominguez Prep took place aboard a tall ship. This time, Yusen Terminals’ Fran Ohlheiser and Marathon Petroleum’s Court Hemerick joined us to discuss maritime careers while sailing down the main channel, passing Yusen Terminals, and then back toward and into the San Pedro Harbor. These local industries are an important part of the maritime industry and one we’re proud to showcase through all of our programs, whether it’s on land or through an up close and personal waterside view from our ships!
